Umeda Sky Building in Osaka: A Must-See Viewpoint Above the City

Umeda Sku Building

Imagine standing nearly 40 floors above the streets of Osaka, the city unfolding beneath you like a living map. When it comes to Osaka attractions, there’s no shortage of things to explore, vibrant street food scenes, historic temples, and bustling shopping districts. But for a whole new perspective on the city, nothing compares to the view from the Umeda Sky Building.

A standout in Osaka’s skyline, the Umeda Sky Building is one of the city’s most recognisable landmarks. Designed by renowned architect Hiroshi Hara, this futuristic twin-tower structure is joined at the top by a Floating Garden Observatory, offering a unique and immersive experience above the city.

The Floating Garden Observatory

Step onto the open-air observation deck on the 39th floor and prepare to be amazed. From this vantage point, you can take in sweeping views of Osaka’s urban sprawl, the Yodo River, and even catch glimpses of Awaji Island on a clear day. Visit by day to enjoy far-reaching views, or come at night, when Osaka transforms into a glittering sea of lights.

Lover’s Sanctuary

Feeling romantic? The building is also home to the Lover’s Sanctuary, a charming spot where you and your special someone can snap a picture with a giant heart, leave a love lock behind, and enjoy a view that’s as dreamy as the moment.

Takimi Koji

After taking in the heights, head underground to Takimi Koji, a hidden gem nestled in the building’s basement. This retro-style dining street recreates the nostalgic charm of Showa-era Osaka, complete with warm lantern lights, traditional shopfronts, and cosy eateries serving local favourites.
